Probably the strangest thing you'll see all day: Hollywood makes a movie, puts four of the biggest names in it, then uses a program called Rotoshop to change it into a cartoon.

No joke, this one is called "A Scanner Darkly" and it's a futuristic action / adventure / drama. You can see the trailer here. Look for it in a theatre near you on September 16th.

We receive a great deal of questions regarding how to get started developing your own Flash games. Macromedia Flash is a great tool that makes it relatively easy to put together a simple game in a fairly small amount of time.

You can get started by visiting the Flash Developer Center on Macromedia's website. It provides an excellent series of Learning Guides on a variety of topics that will get you started.

Who knows? Maybe you will be the author of the next featured game on XGen!

This week XGen Studios features the instant cure to boredom; Interactive Buddy.

The quality of coding is evident by the expandability of the engine. Nerds will go ape over access to the game's proprietary scripting language "Shock Script" (Accessible via the 'Modes' > 'Buy New Modes...' menu option).

Enjoy!

We all know that you are creative. You know it yourself, even if you won't admit it. Why not express yourself to the world for everyone else to see?

One of my personal favorite web sites is DeviantArt. It's an absolutely enormous collection of photographs, drawing, poetry, digital art and everything in between submitted by users like you. All levels of skill are welcomed, and you might get some constructive comments from the other users. Here's my own shameless plug... Go have fun with it!

Hey guys!

Here’s an email from Kyle:

I see that you released the Stick RPG 2 town and it looks awesome. I am wondering though, is there any other towns besides the main one?

It is hard to say at this time if there will be multiple towns in SRPG2. But what I can tell you is that there will be multiple places to go in the first town. Check out StickRPG2.com to see the newest screen shot of - The Ghetto

Originality in games is a very touchy subject. If it turns out right, people will adore you and emulate you to no end. This effect can be seen in games like Grand Theft Auto or the original Doom. However, more often than not the case is that the original game is a bad idea and nobody will enjoy it. This is the reason that publishers often reject original ideas.

We at XGen constantly strive to create innovative games, and we applaud the effort of other developers out there willing to take the risk. Gamasutra has an article listing many original games and game ideas from 2004 - It makes for an interesting read.

Two top-notch new games have been featured! Check out the action-packed 'Rescue Blade' or experience the classic arcade stylings of 'Capoeira Fighter 3'.

Performance updates have also been performed on Motherload, Castle, Fishy V2, and the main page of XGenStudios! These enhancements should provide higher frame rates and a smoother game play experience for those users with current generation systems.

February 6, 2005

As a big fan of Seth MacFarlane's hugely underrated TV series, Family Guy (the show didn't seem to gain a great deal of popularity until after it was cancelled), I had been very much looking forward to the premiere / pilot episode of American Dad which aired tonight on Fox. The premise was simple - more of the geat MacFarlane humor that garnered Family Guy such an enormous cult following.

My opinon? It's definitely shown some of the great comedic flavor of Family Guy, but it remains to be seen whether the series will survive with an all new season of Family Guy starting on March 1st. As we've seen just one episode thus far, I think it's too early to tell whether American Dad will be a success or failure.

This one is for the video gamer who is also an automotive junkie: Sony is once again pushing the limits of what you think consoles are capable of. After a great many delays and fighting off their legions of fanboys, Gran Tourismo 4 is coming to a PS2 near you very soon.

Check out the gameplay footage in this new trailer. This is about as photorealistic as graphics can (currently) get.
